Our Story & Mission
Founded by Melvin Jones in 1917 wanting to respond to social problems due to WWI and rapid industrialization, Lions Clubs International has grown into a vibrant hub for community service and connection. Our journey began with Melvin’s dream, combined with the amazing business men from around the US that he invited to join him, their small acts of kindness, compassion and generosity has blossomed into a legacy of impact throughout the years.
Our mission is simple yet powerful: to empower Lions clubs, volunteers and partners to improve health and well-being, strengthen communities, and support those in need through humanitarian service and grants that impact lives globally, and encourage peace and international understanding. And we fulfill it every day, everywhere we serve. We believe that every person has the power to make a difference, and we’re here to support your journey as a change-maker.

Our Story
After chartering our club in 1936, our motto “We Serve” has guided us in enhancing the lives of visually and hearing-impaired individuals in our community. The Lions Clubs, founded in 1917 by Melvin Jones, an insurance agent from Chicago, IL continue to embody this spirit of service.
